A research category is an organizing label that groups peptide materials by the broad molecular pathway, receptor family, or research area they are commonly referenced in within the scientific literature. The purpose is navigational: categories help a qualified account locate related materials efficiently during catalog review. A category name describes an area of study, not an application, a benefit, or any use of the material.
How to read a category name
Each category is framed as a research area. When a description mentions a pathway, receptor, or signaling family, it is pointing to the body of literature in which those materials are discussed — not asserting an effect. This restraint is intentional and consistent with the research-use-only positioning of the whole catalog. The eight categories below summarize how the catalog is currently structured.

How materials map to categories
A given material appears in the category that best matches the pathway family it is most often referenced alongside. Some materials are relevant to more than one research area, which is why the same descriptors — signaling, receptor activity, metabolic regulation — recur across categories. The catalog record for each material carries the technical detail: name, sequence where available, molecular formula and weight, material format, purity specification, and documentation availability. The category is simply the shelf it sits on.
Why organize this way
Grouping by pathway family keeps the catalog aligned with how research literature discusses these materials and keeps the language neutral. It lets a qualified account browse by area of interest without the catalog implying any outcome. Categories may be adjusted as the catalog grows, but the principle stays constant: each is a research area, described in restrained terms, pointing to documentation rather than to promises.
